Day Two - Good to Better to Bad to Slightly Better
Day 2: Saturday, March 21, 2020
Who knew that the official song for this mess would be Corona by the Minutemen. You probably know it as the theme from Jackass, however, not for some of us. What a perfect song - it has the name and quite frankly, you know what to expect as soon as you hear the opening.
Sleeping next to someone who you're not so sure how sick they are isn't like the greatest sleep of your life. Should I get up and go downstairs? Should I sleep with Neil and Malcolm? Duncan's room on the top bunk? Should I put her out on our balcony?
Thankfully, it never got to any of these. I think I was the first to get up. Then Malcolm, Duncan and Neil. Maybe? I don't remember. I would imagine that. we watched some tv and I got food ready because we didn't know what Jess was going to be feeling like. Thankfully, as always, when you get her out of bed, Isla was happy.
Blueberry waffles. Duncan ate his. Neil didn't want any. Malcolm had one - then another with nutella. And Isla didn't like hers. I had to look to figure out what to make her. I wasn't in the mood to make eggs and clean them up so I took a quick look in the fridge and found Ms. Amy's mashed sweet potatoes. Those she liked.
I mean, she really. liked them...
We spent the rest of the morning doing the usual stuff playing and whatnot. It was relatively calm and people went to different places in the house to watch tv while I played with Isla. And blogged at random times.
All the girls love him, it doesn't matter how old they are, he's got a gift.

| I LOVE when she read to herself. |
Jess and I were in contact via text. I needed to get a plan together because things were going to go south quick. Jess said that she was feeling better and was getting dressed to head down and that maybe we could go for a walk. When she came down, I knew I was not needed for Isla anymore so, I took Neil in the. back to play lacrosse while Duncan and Mr. Cranky Pants watched more tv. As we got ready to get everyone outside, Malcolm became irrational, I know, such a stretch and began to cry because he wanted Mommy to sit in the front with him and not go in the yard with everyone else. This went on for a good half an hour with him screaming at the top of his lungs.
We sat in the front for a while and the kids played with our neighbors kids - I know, not the best social distancing - but we are generally not going in each others' houses.
The girls love Duncs - especially Char. Sorry Joe and Amy.

| I have to admit, he is pretty funny. |
We hung outside for a bit as they rode bikes and things and played soccer, chalked up the sidewalks and then headed in for lunch.
There was no bread. I had a shitty teriyaki chicken (coldcuts) with shredded cheddar on a wrap. I tried to spruce it up with some homemade pickles and cool ranch doritos. Mind you, it's only day two.
By the time the two little ones got in for a nap, Malcolm and I headed into the man cave/lounge/bar to watch some Rebels - he was. disappointed that we were only able to watch one episode.
When Jess was done napping I took one. That's right, I needed one. I have not been feeling great and and not every little thing makes me nervous because I can't really afford to get sick. There is too much that relies on me or things will hit the fan. It funny because as men we are just supposed to get shit right. Quietly do what we need to and fill everyone's expectations, don't complain and just get it done. The truth is is that it's not always easy and just like work, when you're the boss, you. don't really have anyone to talk to and complain about shit to without it being an issue or a sign of weakness. So we do what we do and stumble quietly on our way to success with no one seeing the difficulty of our route.
When I got up, Jess had gotten pizza. A place by us sells you the ingredients and you do it yourself. It turned out good. Neil asked for real cheese and Duncan wanted fake cheese. We spent the dinner with knock knock jokes - ones we've told multiple times before and ones that make absolutely no damn sense at all - especially from Duncan who will name a food and when you say French Fries who? he hits you. It was funny the first time or two. Not by the tenth. We listened to some Van Morrison because Jess had Brown Eyed Girl in her head, so then I had to put school back in session so that they could all be educated on his many other songs. To which Jess told me he also sang Bad Bad Leroy Brown. "You know that bad brown - Mr. Brown song." "No he did not." "Yes he did, it's something brown, I'm going to call my dad and ask him." "You can ask him but if he says he did, he''s wrong too." She was wrong and refused to believe me. For. the record, it was Jim Croce
After dinner we went on our walk - we got a late start so. there weren't too many people out, which is a good thing. Before we headed out, the dick was back, this time, earlier in the evening, it starts off small.
It was also a fairly quick walk which was good because it was starting to get cold.
Isla took off her gloves and hat, so of course he put them on. You can make your own conclusions here.
We got in and Duncs got a bath while the Isla went to bed and the other two watched tv. Before getting them in Neil announced that he. drank too much apple juice which he snuck while I was putting Duncs in.
Well, about 9:45 Malcolm starts crying and throws up. On his bed, then into a makeshift bag then into the toilet.
Neil Wed: 9 and 12; Thursday, 12 midnight
Malcolm: Thursday 2 am; Saturday 9:45 pm
Jess: Stomach - no vomiting.
WTF. This is bullshit.
Otherwise, today was great and more in line with what I expected it to be. If this is what it has to be for a while, we can hack it. It is much easier with two. It's not easy, mind you but it is easier.I can only imagine how much bullshit there is going to be come Monday with the non-prepared DoE. At least there is no commute.
